Childhood is perhaps the most turbulent period of life. An intrinsic desire to define the unknown impels us through our youth, enabling each person to formulate their own unique perceptions and identities. This developmental period is often marred with trials and traumas. The ability of a child’s mind to harbour itself from these traumas is crucial to maintain a stable emotional development. The instinct to prosper and an inherent naivety provide shelter from potentially damaging experiences that would otherwise harm a fragile mind. Through ‘Slumber’; Purity, Naivety and childhood are personified by Jake’s 7 year old sister, Amber who comes to represent the preservation of youth, enduring a myriad of dilapidated environments. Slumber in essence, is a dedication to all who survived difficult childhoods.
