Jake Starr (b. 1998) is a transdisciplinary artist residing on Gadigal land (Sydney, Australia).
Their work occupies the realms of new media, sculpture, writing and photography.
Embedded in a post-structuralist cybernetic framework, Starr’s practice engages with new technologies, non-anthropocentric theory and a diverse lineage of image making processes to generate future imaginaries as a means of critiquing the trajectory of techno-capitalist production. Much of their practice involves the collation and expropriation of overlooked data. The process of image making allows Starr to visually reify the glitches, contradictions and ideological undercurrents of data sets, illuminating the material realities of abstracted information while theorising on the future implications of our technological systems.

I would like to pay my deepest respect to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which I work and live.
I extend that respect to elders past, present and emerging and recognise the Gadigal people’s continuing connection to land, water and community.
I also acknowledge the artistic practice of the Gadigal people which has been practiced for thousands of years and continues to enrich culture and community.
Sovereignty was never ceded.
Always was, Always will be, Aboriginal land.
